As we enter a new season of the year, we tend to think about changes and new beginnings.  Fall is such a beautiful time with gorgeous weather and exciting events in our area.  We do live in the MOST beautiful town in AMERICA!  And Jefferson City is exceptionally beautiful in the fall.

At Gassen Dentistry we have made a few small changes that we are hoping will improve our patients' experiences and interactions with our offfice.  We are fortunate to live in this beautiful town full of unique, caring individuals.  It has been a pleasure getting to meet so many wonderful people from Jefferson City over the years.  We are using social media as a way to interact more with our amazing patients and get to know them better.  You can follow us on Facebook to see what we are posting as it relates to dental health or just for fun.  It has been a great way to connect with the fun patients we get to meet everyday in the office.  (But in a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, since on Facebook there isn't the sound of the suction or handpiece running!)  We would like to say thank you for being our friend on Facebook with a small gift.  So, let us know at your next appointment that you have "liked" our Facebook page and you'll receive a free lip balm.  We already have over 100 new friends!  We are so grateful for our amazing patients that make coming to work FUN!      www.facebook.com/gassendentistry

Also, we have recently started an account on Pinterest.  Pinterest is a fascinating place to see tons of new ideas and learn new things.  There is a lot to learn about teeth!  :)  We will pin a variety of content, from healthy recipes to the newest technology in dentistry.  Check out our page and see what's trending in dentistry...     www.pinterest.com/gassendentistry

We hope to engage with our patients in fun, new ways by using Facebook and Pinterest.  We realize you have many friends, but you may want to just learn something new about your dental office too!

You know what else I love about fall?!  (well, honestly all year long...)  Coffee from Starbucks!!!!  Refer a friend just as wonderful as yourself to our office and we will send you $5 to enjoy at Starbucks.  Thanks for being the best patients and have a happy fall!

It's our favorite time of year!  The sun is shining, the kids are out of school, the golf course is beautiful, the lake is sparkling...  Summer is a happy time.  We wish you all a very exciting and funfilled season!  This is also a great time to think about whitening your teeth.  It can really make a big impact on your appearance.

Many factors, including dietary habits (drinking coffee, tea, soda, and red wine) and certain medications, affect the whiteness of your smile. Tooth whitening is an affordable and effective way to combat common causes of tooth discoloration, while boosting your self-confidence and improving your smile!

Do you or your spouse snore?!  Does it wake you or them up at night?

Sleep apnea affects the way you breathe when you're sleeping.  In untreated sleep apnea, breathing is briefly interrupted or becomes very shallow during sleep.  These pauses can last about 10-30 seconds and can occur up to hundreds of times a night!  This leads to less time in deep sleep which we need to be energetic and productive the next day.  This chronic sleep deprivation results in daytime sleepiness, slow reflexes, poor concentration, and increased risk for accidents!  If you have noticed these signs or symptoms of sleep apnea, see your physician immediately to determine an official diagnosis.

Treatment for sleep apnea has come a long way...  you may want to discuss with your doctor whether a breathing device is necessary.  Mild to moderate sleep apnea can be successfully treated with a dental device worn at night to keep your airway open.  Talk to Dr. Gassen about your diagnosis and see if a dental device may work for you.  He works with many doctors in Jefferson City to determine the best treatment for their mutual patients.  We all deserve a good night's sleep!

This month is Dental Health Month.  We will be talking with local elementary schools about taking care of their teeth and what to expect at the dentist's office.  It's a fun time to explain some basic dental procedures and show the children some of our tools!  During this special month we like to pay close attention to our patients' oral habits at home and provide advice on what could improve or change in their routine.

Always try to replace your toothbrush every 3 months... it may be time this month!  Keep floss handy and stock up on mouthwash (Listerine or Crest Pro-Health).  A daily rinse can really help by killing harmful bacteria.  You may want to try a Waterpik or Sonicare's Air Flosser to clean more thoroughly between your teeth.  A lot of cavities start between our teeth where we may be building up plaque around our old fillings or crowns.  Also try to gently brush your gums along with your teeth.

Have a healthy mouth and a very happy month!
